Darren Celebrates Thirty Diamond Years
Thirty years working within the business, an unwavering commitment to employees and strong support of the local community have led to the coveted East Cheshire Chamber Business Person of the Year award win for Darren Hesketh, Managing Director of Diamond Electronics.
Darren, a well known and popular member of the local business community, was recognised particularly for his strong leadership of Diamond Electronics during recent recession years, the results of which saw Diamond Electronics achieved its strongest trading figures to date in 2010 with a turnover increase of 42% since the darkest days of the recession in 2009.
Much of Darren's spare time is given each month on a voluntary basis to support community initiatives; he is a founder member of the Congleton KISS group (Knowledge, Information Sharing and Support), was a judge in the Young Enterprise competition last year and sits on the board of the South Cheshire Careers Academy
"It's fantastic to be recognised by the Chamber in this way" commented Darren "and I'm delighted to receive the award, which I am proud to accept on behalf of the team who have been hugely involved and supportive in making 2010 such a successful year."
Diamond Electronics employs 43 staff most of whom live locally. The business specialises in the supply of electronic components, human machine interface components and procurement management services to original equipment manufacturers and contract electronic manufacturers in both the UK and Europe. Their latest division Diamond LED Lighting markets an extensive range of energy saving LED lighting products designed for retrofitting in commercial and domestic applications.
Diamond LED Lighting at ELEX 2010
COMING SOON... Onyx 2 semi-diffused T8 LED Tubes
These tubes can be retrofitted into standard T8 fittings as a more energy efficient, non-flicker alternative to fluorescent tube lighting. To install, just remove the ballast and starter from the standard T8 fitting. The tubes have a built in safety switch, which prevents mains current from flowing through the tube until both ends are fitted and rotated into place.
Suggested applications: commercial/industrial lighting, e.g. office lighting, sports halls and underground carparks.

Diamond LED Lighting at ELEX 2010
Exhibiting at ELEX for the very first time this year, Diamond LED Lighting were overwhelmed with visitors showing a keen interest in the ET41 MR16 Dimmable lamp, which unlike many dimmable LED products works on a standard dimmer and dims fully all the way down to zero light output.
The ET diffused tubes on display also caused a stir when visitors realised that they too were LED, yet look exactly like standard fluorescent tubes. The ET tubes retrofit into standard T8 fittings simply by bypassing the ballast and starter.
Sales and Marketing Manager, Peter Hall commented "I'm pretty sure the Diamond LED Lighting stand was by far the brightest in the hall, yet despite a huge light output of 54400 lumens the stand ran on less than 850 W electricity because of the use of LED lights throughout the display."

Time to Switch the Light Off
The traditional light bulb is being phased out in favour of low-energy replacements and local supplier of LED alternatives, Diamond LED Lighting of Smallwood is leading the way in encouraging business owners to review their current lighting stock.
In March 2007 the EU agreed to phase out incandescent light bulbs by 2012 and the regulations are swiftly coming into force. Incandescent bulbs are said to waste most of their energy (95 per cent) on heat whilst new LED lamps use less energy, last around 12 times longer than traditional bulbs and are fully recyclable. In practise this means that stocks of lamps that many businesses currently use will soon be running out so the time has come to consider alternative lighting options.
Last year, the 150-watt bulb was scrapped and this year stocks of 100-watt and 75-watt bulbs are being phased out, with a ban on the manufacture and import of clear 75-watt incandescent bulbs having become effective on the 1st of September 2010. Further regulations to tighten the standards on the use of fluorescent tubes commonly found in offices are soon to follow.
"Many business owners are unaware of the phasing in of the ban and we would encourage them to review their current lighting needs", comments Darren Hesketh of Diamond LED Lighting. "The up side of all this legislation is that replacement of bulbs with the new LED alternatives can massively reduce energy costs for businesses whilst bringing them in to the 21st century in terms of environmental awareness."
"The regulations are also beginning to tighten on the use of halogen lamps and were trying to help businesses to realise the savings achievable by directing them towards the cost saving calculator which clearly illustrates the difference that can be made with lamp replacement."
Founder of Congleton based Cheshire Electricals, Harry Gillespie commented "We're fully aware of the phasing out of the energy-hungry old fashioned light bulbs and ensure that we stock a wide range of alternatives for our customers. It's true to say that Cheshire Electricals can provide a solution for just about every fitting requirement and the LED range from Diamond LED Lighting is an essential part of our stock."
Diamond LED Lighting can supply an LED alternative for any standard light fitting and the new range of modern LEDs are far less bulky than many other alternatives. A full list of local suppliers can be found in our client database.Long Term Savings on LIghting
The future's bright for Congleton Town Council since the installation of energy saving LED lamps in a beautiful new display cabinet, fitted as part of the Town Hall refurbishment programme.
The new and magnificently crafted display cabinet, standing over six foot tall, has been built to a bespoke design to fit above the stairwell just outside the newly refurbished Bridestones Suite and is to be filled with a selection of the towns treasures and artefacts. Local electrical contractors and suppliers T & S Electrical Ltd of Mill Street have supplied and fitted LED lamps inside the cabinet from Diamond LED Lighting's expansive range. The LED lamps use less energy, last around 12 times longer than traditional bulbs and are fully recyclable. Unlike traditional bulbs they don't waste most of their energy emitting heat, further protecting the treasures on display in the new cabinet from any heat damage.
Installation of the new display cabinet is part of the Town Hall renovation and upgrade programme which began when Congleton Town Council took over the freehold and management of the Town Hall in June 2008. Key objectives of the programme were to make the roof of the Town Hall watertight, to make the building as energy efficient as possible and to return the building as a social hub for the Congleton community, including the protection and display of the town's treasures for the benefit of all residents. Energy efficiency has been achieved with insulation of cavities, upgrade of the central heating system to make it more flexible and easy to regulate and installation of LED lighting where possible.
Counsellor Ernie Clarke, Chairman of the Town Hall Committee commented "The choice of LED lamps within the new display cabinet was important to us as we are committed to long term energy and cost savings for the Town Council. The brightly lit cabinet is perfect for displaying town treasures for everyone within the community to see."
